Q. What is RosettaNet?
A. RosettaNet, a subsidiary of GS1 US, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the collaborative
development and rapid deployment of open, e-business process standards that align processes within
global trading networks. RosettaNet standards and services provide a common language for e-business
transactions and the foundation for integrating critical processes among partners within the global
supply chain. Companies that use RosettaNet’s proven standards benefit from added cost-savings
throughout supply chain processes, improved e-business communications with trading partners,
enhanced product life cycle management capabilities, and added customer satisfaction.
Q. What is the mission of RosettaNet?
A. RosettaNet drives collaborative development and rapid deployment of supply chain, business process
standards and services, creating a common language and open processes that provide measurable
benefits that are vital to the evolution of the global trading network.
Q. Why should I become a member of RosettaNet?

Q. What are RosettaNet standards?
A.
RosettaNet standards are developed
by users for users, facilitating speed, efficiency and reliability, enabling greater collaboration
and improved communication between trading partners. Nonproprietary and freely available to the
public on the RosettaNet website, RosettaNet standards encompass data dictionaries, implementation
framework, and XML-based business message schemas and process specifications.

Q. How does RosettaNet differ from other standards efforts?
A.
RosettaNet operates with the
collaboration of hundreds of organizations, with technological and corporate support at the highest
levels of the industry's largest companies. Members of RosettaNet contribute significantly
throughout the standards development process, from concept to implementation.
And unlike other standards efforts, which focus on specific business units, elements and/or
proprietary solutions, RosettaNet develops robust open business process standards, encompassing
data dictionaries, implementation framework, and XML-based business message schemas and process
specifications, proven by global implementations.
Q. Is RosettaNet global in scope?
A.
Spanning the Americas, Asia and
Europe, the RosettaNet community includes multinational members and is driven by Global Councils.
Additionally, RosettaNet has regional affiliates — in the Australia, China, Europe, Japan, Korea,
Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan — giving a voice to various business economies seeking
to adopt and influence RosettaNet standards.
Q. What is the RosettaNet Membership Program?
A.
The RosettaNet Membership Program
is a framework of flexible options that allow organizations to choose their level of membership
Global Council Member, Global Industry Member, Global Partner, and Alliance Partner — according to
the leadership role, standards participation, type of information and implementation assistance
they require. A RosettaNet membership provides access to incremental tools and services to enhance
members' ability to establish and maintain trading-partner networks efficiently.

Q. What are the RosettaNet Global Councils?
A.
RosettaNet has six established
Global Councils — including the Computer and Consumer Electronics (CCE) Global Council, Electronic
Components Global Council, Logistics (LG) Global Council, Semiconductor (SM) Global Council,
Solution Provider (SP) Global Council, and Telecommunications (TC) Global Council. Representing a
cross-section of the consortium in terms of regions and core competencies, the Global Councils
drive development and priorities, serve as examples of implementation success, and actively promote
RosettaNet.
Q. What is the RosettaNet Standards Methodology?
A.
The RosettaNet Standards
Methodology (RSM) enables global cooperation to quickly solve targeted business problems.
RSM evolved through rigorous testing by nearly 50 RosettaNet programs resulting in over 2000
implementations of new global standards.

Q. What are RosettaNet Foundational Programs?
A. RosettaNet Foundational Programs encompass the development and evolution of all RosettaNet
standards, including enhanced production of standard specifications and content, improved technical
architecture, convergence activities and programs designed to improve implementation and global
adoption. Examples include the RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF), RosettaNet Business
Dictionary (RNBD), and RosettaNet Technical Dictionary (RNTD).
Q. What are RosettaNet Milestone Programs?
A.
RosettaNet Milestone Programs
focus on reaching implementation goals within an e-business process scenario. They serve as
unifying forces within the industry — driving collaboration to solve critical supply chain
challenges, aligning priorities within trading partner and solution provider communities, and
speeding development and production implementation of RosettaNet PIPs.
Q. What is a Partner Interface Process® (PIP®)?
A.
RosettaNet Partner Interface
Processes (PIPs) are specialized system-to-system XML-based dialogs that define business processes
between trading partners. Each PIP specification includes a business document with the vocabulary,
and a business process with the choreography of the message dialog.
Q. What is the RosettaNet Implementation Framework?
A.
The RosettaNet Implementation
Framework (RNIF) Core Specification provides exchange protocols for quick and efficient
implementation of RosettaNet standards. The RNIF specifies information exchange between trading
partner servers using XML, covering the transport, routing and packaging; security; signals; and
trading partner agreement.
