Intel To Begin Implementing Standards-Based E-Business Processes In 2000

For Release June 9, 1999

Santa Clara, CA -- Intel Corporation today announced its intention to begin implementing standards-based E-Business processes established through RosettaNet, a non-profit consortium of global information technology users and suppliers. Beginning in February 2000, Intel plans to move from pilot phase to implementation of order and inventory management processes into its existing E-Business programs. This is in part due to the rapid development of content and transaction standards by RosettaNet member companies over the past year.

"Cost-effective, standards-based data sharing capability worldwide with our OEM and distributor customers is a necessity for Intel and its customers to be successful," said Sean Maloney, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Sales and Marketing Group. "We are evolving our E-business program to include RosettaNet developed standards because more and more of our corporate customers want to transact business with Intel twenty-four hours-a-day, seven days-a-week and not via batch methods."

During the past year, Intel has transformed its business processes and existing supply chain through several E-Business programs. Intel is currently doing business over the Internet with 550 of its OEM and distributor customers in forty-six countries worldwide through thousands of personalized websites. The business being transacted over the Net occurs at a rate of approximately one billion dollars per month, or roughly half of Intel's annual revenue.

Intel is committed to evolve its systems in a way that continues to make its customers competitive in the fast paced PC business. Based on customer feedback and a review of Intel's own E-Business processes, the company will focus its technical implementation of RosettaNet developed standards initially in the areas of order and inventory management. Intel's participation in the RosettaNet initiative is meant to help develop the next generation systems, infrastructure and standards-based commerce technologies that will help fuel the growth of the Internet economy.

The RosettaNet Managing Board now consists of 34 CEOs, CIOs, and executives representing global members of the IT supply chain, including: American Express, Arrow Electronics, Avnet, CHS Electronics, Cisco Systems, CompUSA, Compaq, Computacenter, Deutsche Financial Services, EDS, Federal Express, GE Information Services, GSA, Hewlett-Packard Company, IBM, Inacom, Ingram Micro Inc., Insight, Intel, Marshall Industries, Microage, Microsoft, Netscape, NEC Technologies, Office Depot, Oracle, pcOrder, SAP AG, Siemens, Solectron, Tech Data, 3Com, Toshiba Information Systems and United Parcel Service.
