Partner Press Release RosettaNet Consortium Gaining Momentum For Release October 10, 2000
AUSTIN Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector (NYSE:MOT) has delivered on its innovative e-business strategy with the implementation of an Internet-based communications program, meeting the RosettaNet Consortium target implementation date of 10.10.2000. This program, implemented with Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:ARW), the world's largest distributor of electronic components and computer products, communicates marketing program information directly over the Internet, which will allow real time access to Motorola marketing information for immediate use by the Arrow sales force in the United States and Canada. In addition to the increased availability of information to its channel sales force, Motorola anticipates cost savings for program administration as a result of this automation. "Having real time access to Motorola's marketing information will enable us to provide the latest product information to our customers even faster than before," stated David Westmoreland, Arrow's Vice President and Chief Information Officer. "We value this opportunity to work more efficiently with Motorola to provide better service to our customers." "Meeting the 10.10.2000 milestone shows the enormous commitment by industry leaders to drive forward and make RosettaNet standards pervasive in the industry," said Jennifer Hamilton, CEO of RosettaNet. Recognized as a global leader in the area of Electronic Data Interfaces (EDI), Motorola SPS has invested significant resources to implement a fully integrated global EDI infrastructure. With that background, Motorola SPS recognizes that RosettaNet offers numerous new business processes that maximize the use of the Internet. Motorola SPS will not replace the existing EDI integrated suite of Order and Inventory Management transactions, but, rather will develop new integrated supply chain concepts to bring a new dimension to the management of its total supply chain. "While it is too early to report tangible and explicit benefits, the processes targeted for implementation will enable us to become an extension of the operational infrastructures of our trading partners," said Frederic Herzer, Director of RosettaNet B2B Processes for Motorola SPS. "We are creating an environment of dynamic collaboration that takes full advantage of the Internet platform." Motorola SPS also recognizes the importance of the proper positioning of the RosettaNet initiative within its e-business strategy. To that effect, the Motorola SPS Leadership team has established the organizational linkages that will enable the development and integration of RosettaNet within the overall suite of e-business solutions currently in place, or in the process of being implemented. An initiative like RosettaNet requires internal commitment and infrastructure, as well as external collaboration. Under the leadership of Hans Wildenberg, VP and Director of Global Sales, Motorola SPS has established and staffed a Global RosettaNet Office and a virtual organization of subject matter experts worldwide to capitalize on the collective business experience required to develop true global processes. While internal preparation and readiness are vital, external collaboration with the RosettaNet Organization and Consortium of Trading Partners has been a strategic focus for Motorola SPS. Motorola SPS has demonstrated its commitment to the RosettaNet Consortium by serving two successive terms of Chairmanship. As the RosettaNet scope continues to mature, Motorola will continue to participate as one of the leading companies within the RosettaNet Consortium of Trading Partners.
