Partner Press Release Logistics provider's e-commerce revenues now exceed $5 billion in annualized sales For Release October 10, 2000
SAN FRANCISCO Tech Data Corp. today announced implementation of new electronic business processes that will enhance the company's e-commerce application for its customers and business partners. Using RosettaNet common language and product identifiers, the new processes enable Tech Data customers to more easily obtain real-time product pricing and availability via the Web and then transfer this information to an electronic shopping cart for order placement and fulfillment. Tech Data is implementing these new processes through collaborative e-commerce marketplaces with Cisco Systems Inc. and Seagate Technology Inc. Introduced earlier this year, the marketplaces allow technology resellers to leverage Tech Data's world-class logistics capabilities through the leading manufacturers' Web sites, creating a single online purchasing experience that improves efficiencies for Tech Data customers and shortens sales cycles. Marketplace enhancements through the new RosettaNet processes, announced today, allow customers to bridge Tech Data's enterprise networks with those of Cisco's and Seagate's at a higher level of data integrity and functionality not available through traditional EDI or API connections. Tech Data's RosettaNet implementation process is yet another step in the company's strategic vision to become the leading provider of IT products and logistics services in the e-commerce age. The company has successfully evolved its traditional brick and mortar business to become one of the leaders in the digital supply chain placing 10th on the Inter@ctive Week Internet 500 listing, which ranks companies based on electronic commerce sales. Tech Data's e-commerce revenues have grown by more than 100 percent over the previous year and now exceed $5 billion of the company's annualized sales to account for approximately 35 percent of its business. "RosettaNet processes are an essential component of Tech Data's overall e-commerce initiatives," said David Lafferty, vice president of electronic commerce for Tech Data. "By implementing these standards across our enterprise, we can more closely integrate our systems with those of our business partners and better automate the supply chain for our customers." About RosettaNet More than 300 companies representing over $1 trillion in annual information technology, electronic components and semiconductor manufacturing revenues currently participate in RosettaNet's standards development, strategy and implementation activities.
