Pioneer-Standard Exceeds RosettaNet Goals By Implementing Standards With Both Customer and Supplier
Pioneer-Standard Enables Both Bourns, Supplier, and Carrier Corporation, Customer, to Manage Purchase Orders Using RosettaNet Standards
For Release
October 10, 2000
SAN FRANCISCO
Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:PIOS) today
announced the first-ever implementation of multiple RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes (PIPs),
a set of standardized instructions that enable supply chain partners to automate the exchange of
information over the Internet. Pioneer-Standard is the first electronics distributor to implement a
PIP -- involving the distributor, supplier and customer -- with Bourns and Carrier Corporation --
within the RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF). Pioneer-Standard has exceeded RosettaNet's
goal of implementing a PIP with at least one trading partner by 10.10.2000, partnering with both a
supplier and a customer to deploy RosettaNet eBusiness strategies throughout the entire supply
chain.
Pioneer-Standard is an electronic components board member of RosettaNet, an independent,
self-funded, non-profit consortium dedicated to the development and deployment of standard
e-Business interfaces that will align supply chain partners globally. RosettaNet's Manage Purchase
Order PIP 3A4 that Pioneer-Standard implemented with Bourns and Carrier Corporation, increases the
speed, accuracy and volume of data shared between each partner. Pioneer-Standard's successful
implementation of PIP 3A4 with Bourns and Carrier Corporation and other suppliers like Intel and
National Semiconductor, has proven that routine purchase order entries and tracking will require
less "human interaction."
"We continue to increase the volume of part numbers exchanged, improving cycle times throughout
the entire end-to-end process," said Art Rhein, president and COO, Pioneer-Standard Electronics,
Inc. and RosettaNet Electronic Component (EC) Board Member. "In the electronics industry,
RosettaNet standards are the next generation of eBusiness technology, enabling us to capitalize on
the global reach of the Internet. At Pioneer-Standard, we are weaving this highly flexible process
into our eBusiness programs, bringing significant benefit throughout the entire supply chain."
Gordon Bourns, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Bourns, Inc., predicts RosettaNet standardization
will enable them to respond in a more timely and efficient manner. "We expect the use of RosettaNet
PIPs to significantly improve our customer's ease of doing business with Bourns. RosettaNet will
save our customers, distributors and ourselves a great deal of time and expense."
"The implementation of this PIP allows our purchasers to allocate the majority of their work day
to meeting our business needs," said Esther Johnson, logistics and customer service manager,
Carrier Corporation. "The entire supply chain recognizes significant benefits as RosettaNet
eBusiness standards are implemented. We expect to see these standards adopted quickly throughout
the industry."
Pioneer-Standard is working with other RosettaNet partners such as Intel, Philips Semiconductors
and National Semiconductor, to implement additional PIPs as they are released into production by
RosettaNet. These PIPs include PIP 2A1, Distribute New Product Information, which allows supplier
catalogs to be updated automatically anytime a change is made; PIP 5D Series, Ship and Debit and
PIP 5C Series, Design Win Management.
