NEC Electronics and Avnet Electronics Marketing Achieve RosettaNet Design-Win Management Milestone

For Release February 26, 2002

Santa Clara, CA and Phoenix, AZ --

NEC Electronics Inc. and Avnet Electronics Marketing (NYSE: AVT) today announced that they have implemented the RosettaNet 5C1 Partner Interface Process ä (PIP â ) in conjunction with the RosettaNet Design-Win Management Milestone.   RosettaNet standards enable communication via the Internet using PIPs, specialized dialogs that define business processes between suppliers and customers.   With RosettaNet, companies have a common e-business language and can align business processes on a global basis.   By helping distributors update parts lists registered through the design-win process, the 5C1 PIP enables distributors to effectively position their products in the market.   The 5C series PIPs create a close connection between suppliers and distributors that help lead to more successful design wins and greater revenue.

"Avnet Electronics Marketing and NEC Electronics have successfully implemented the RosettaNet 5C1 PIP and have met the Design-Win Management Milestone date," said Tom Ault, Group Technology Officer, Avnet Electronics Marketing. "RosettaNet and its member companies have demonstrated growth and progress in the Milestone programs, which were achieved despite the most challenging year in the history of the electronics industry.   The design-win process enables distributors to ensure better alignment between the product technology of their suppliers with that of their OEM customers. Implementing the RosettaNet Design-Win PIP series has positively impacted process efficiencies and revenues.   We look forward to further leveraging RosettaNet with our trading partners."

“NEC Electronics Inc. is very pleased to announce meeting the Design-Win Milestone date by successfully implementing the 5C1 PIP with Avnet Electronics Marketing.   The distribution design-win registration process has been in existence since the early 1980s, but now through the RosettaNet 5C series PIPs, better return on investment can be demonstrated,” said Michael Turay, senior manager e-business, NEC Electronics Inc.   “In addition to achieving this design-win milestone, NEC Electronics was able to streamline many of its business processes that support design-win registration, improving our ROI as well.”

NEC Electronics and Avnet Electronics Marketing continue to work on additional PIPs through   RosettaNet, a non-profit consortium of more than 400 of the world’s leading information technology, electronic component, semiconductor manufacturing and solution provider companies working to create, implement and promote open e-business process
standards.
