RosettaNet Press Release Consortium to Operate as Regional Affiliate For Release March 31, 2000
SANTA ANA, CA -- RosettaNet today announced an expansion of its global presence with the formation of RosettaNet Japan. Members of this regional affiliate, headquartered in Japan, will collaborate in the development and implementation of global eBusiness supply chain standards within the information technology (IT) and electronic component (EC) industries. The establishment of RosettaNet Japan is another step in the initiative to globalize standards for interoperability of IT and EC supply chain business processes. A regional office in Europe was established in late 1999. RosettaNet Japan will operate as a regional affiliate with the charter to implement existing standards, collaborate with the global headquarters in addressing regional differences in business processes, participate in workshops that develop and review new specifications, and promote RosettaNet as the global supply chain standard in Japan. Supported by CommerceNet Japan, an industry association dedicated to advancing eCommerce, RosettaNet Japan will elect a regional board of directors in April to oversee standards implementation in its region. "RosettaNet Executive Board Members are unanimously committed to a global structure by which regional centers of commerce can participate in the standards process, collaborate with members worldwide and drive implementation within their regions," said RosettaNet CEO Jennifer Hamilton. Discussions are under way that will lead to RosettaNet organizations in other countries, she added. "This is a strong example of the concrete steps we are taking to make RosettaNet a global standard," said Colin Evans, RosettaNet chairman and director of E-Business Strategy and Operations at Intel. "We're continuing to expand the involvement of new companies worldwide while increasing the pace of innovation and implementation." There is already a great deal of synergy between RosettaNet Japan and U.S.-based members, Hamilton noted. North American subsidiaries of such firms as Hitachi, NEC and Toshiba are current members, while Japanese subsidiaries of North American companies such as Compaq, Dun & Bradstreet, IBM, Intel and Microsoft are members of the Japanese consortium. "The realization of global electronic commerce is an urgent issue for all industries of Japan, as transactions with overseas companies account for a majority of its activities," said Kiyoshi Sugaya, senior manager, NTT Communications. "The establishment of a borderless and efficient supply chain is indispensable to the development of each company." Companies and organizations already committed to joining RosettaNet Japan include:
