RosettaNet Press Release 16 Companies and Organizations Key to the Vitality of Korea's High Technology Industry Join to Participate in Consortium's Global Standards Initiatives For Release February 8, 2001
Santa Ana, CA, United States of America -- RosettaNet, the leader in global e-business process standards, announced today that it has officially launched operations in Korea, further expanding the adoption of its common supply chain standards that enable companies in Asia and throughout the world to engage in dynamic B2B trading partner relationships via the Internet. RosettaNet Korea's charter will be to introduce, develop and promote RosettaNet's e-business standards to further strengthen the country's global competitiveness. Sixteen key companies and organizations within Korea's high technology industry are founding members of the organization. RosettaNet Korea has formed steering committees to apply RosettaNet standards within the country's Information Technology (IT) and Electronic Components (EC) industries. The IT steering committee will be led by Mr. Namkyu Park of IntelligenceWare and will consist of Daewoo Electronics, Electropia, FreeDigitel, IntelligenceWare, IT4Web, LG Electronics, New Soft Techniques, and eSum Technologies. The EC steering committee will be led by Sunny Lee of Samsung Electronics and will consist of Anam Semiconductor, Hyundai Electronics, Intel Korea, Microsoft Korea, Samsung Electronics and Trigem Computer. The organization will also comprise a general committee that involves all participating companies in organizational activities. In addition to company participation, two non-profit organizations have also joined: the Korea Institute for Electronic Commerce and the Electronic Industry Association of Korea (EIAK). The EIAK has also provided critical operational support for the creation of RosettaNet Korea. Its general manager, Mr. Sungbok Kim, has been and will be instrumental in organizing these efforts. RosettaNet Korea is the latest addition to a broader initiative in Asia that already includes activities in Japan, Singapore and Taiwan. All of these regions are dedicated to the implementation of RosettaNet's B2B supply chain standards. RosettaNet Korea, like other regional organizations, is empowered to address regional differences in business practices and how they will conform to or influence modifications to global RosettaNet standards. "RosettaNet is quickly becoming the global standard for high-technology companies interested in improving the way in which they conduct e-business with supply chain partners," said Jennifer Hamilton, CEO, RosettaNet. "The benefits of RosettaNet standards cross geographic and industry boundaries, and the addition of Korea -- another key location in the global supply chain -- further illustrates this." Mr. Hyung Moon Kim of Samsung Electronics has been elected chairman of RosettaNet Korea. Mr. Ahn of Trigem Computer has been elected vice chairman. "Korea is a critical global supply chain partner," said Kim. "I'm very pleased that leading Korean companies are collaborating to drive RosettaNet in Korea." Both Samsung and IntelligenceWare have provided on-loan resources to the new organization. Mr. Jin S. Jeong, of Samsung's e-business group will manage the organization's partner relations program. Ms. Minhye Yu, of IntelligenceWare will also provide organizational support. RosettaNet is far more ubiquitous than typical technical standards. In addition to adopting non-proprietary Internet protocols and XML Internet language, members are adopting a technical dictionary of common terms, a standard implementation framework and Partner Interface Processes â„¢ (PIPs â„¢ ) that define the structure and content of transactions. Other Korean companies that would like to participate in the RosettaNet Korea should visit the RosettaNet Web site at http://www.rosettanet.org to access membership information and obtain an application. About RosettaNet RosettaNet is an independent, non-profit consortium dedicated to the collaborative development and rapid deployment of open Internet-based business standards that align processes within the global high-technology trading network. More than 350 companies representing over $1 trillion in annual Information Technology, Electronic Components and Semiconductor Manufacturing revenues currently participate in RosettaNet's standards development, strategy and implementation activities.
