Nokia and Texas Instruments are
leading the effort to design a standards based automation of product / process change (PCN) and
end-of-life (EOL) notifications between trading partners. The scope will include the process
definition of PCN/EOL notifications and likely the creation/modification of a notification and
feedback pair of PIPs (2B series).
eBusiness Process
Challenge
•
No common standardized system-to-system PCN
format available for Trading Partners (Distributors, CEM, ODM, Car-makers and EC
manufacturers).
•
Many suppliers and several 3rd parties offer
portal-based solutions (push/pull) of PCN information, but they are seen more as a supplementary
service as they are passive and do not replace the active alerts.
•
Traceability is an important legal requirement
and is not given with current mail, email and fax exchanges.
•
Confirmation of receipt of PCN is not automated
so suppliers have to assume the customer has received and accepted the notification when there is
no response.
Program Objective
•
Replacement of non-standard manual
processes (Portal, Fax, email) through seamless PCN/EOL from system to system.
•
Streamlined and reliable process
through increased speed (product to market), efficiency through
better data quality.
•
Minimized liability impact through an industry
standard approach dealing with PCN communication.
•
Improved PCN visibility to avoid communication
failures.
