High Level Introduction

Summary of the targeted ebusiness process, affected supply chain and roles.

1. Overview -

Develop bi-directional communication between shippers, logistics providers and transportation providers in order to send initial pre-booking, acknowledgement, and confirmation of actual booking of shipments, booking cancellation, and shipment status.

2. eBusiness Process -

1. Shipper initiates request to book transportation services via PIP 3B12 Request.

2. Logistics or Transportation provider acknowledges the request and assigns the shipper a HAWB (House Airway Bill Number) or other tracking number, e.g. order number, MAWB (Master Bill) number etc… to manage the shipment via PIP 3B12 Confirmation. Time to perform is different for various providers, e.g. Ocean takes longer. Differences can be provided in the TPA.

3. Shipper confirms shipment via PIP 3B13 or Cancels request via PIP 3B14.

4. Logistics or Transportation Provider begins providing status using the 3B3.

3.  Supply Chain(s) - Affected Supply Chain and Roles

Logistics Providers – Transportation suppliers (Integrators and Freight Forwarders). The organization responsible for performing the shipping logistics for the Shipper.

S hipper – Supplier of goods. The party who relinquishes (assigns) a shipment to a logistics provider or transportation provider.

Transportation Providers – Carrier that transports goods in the supply chain.
