Purpose

Business reason for the Milestone program. Includes the problem statement, business objectives, target supply chain roles and value proposition.

Problem Statement

  • Currently, Warranty Claim information is sent manually or discretely via various OEM services network web sites.
  • Need to develop the ability for this information to be exchanged between the Service Partner and OEM systems, without manual data entry.
  • The utilization of standard schemas to describe this information is highly desirable as this is a cross-company solution.
  • Currently there are no published XML standards for the transfer of Warranty Claims electronically.

Program Objectives

  • Standardize and automate the Warranty Process.
Significantly reduce the number of manual process transactions.
  • Reduce redundant warranty data claim entry.
  • Improve the quality and consistency of claim information exchanged.

Program Scope
The business objective of the initiative is to obtain agreement from technology product manufacturers and their authorized service providers to accept a worldwide electronic standard that will increase the efficiency of their warranty processing. An electronic standard will provide significant cost reduction of warranty processing for manufacturers and authorized service providers. The outcome of standards acceptance and implementation is a systematic way to process warranty claims for the entire Information Technology industry. With hundreds of thousands of warranty transactions being enacted per month the overall industry savings are expected in the millions of dollars in processing cost and better customer service in warranty repair situations. During this service process the electronic elements that transpire are 1)warranty entitlement, 2) warranty claim submission, 3) service repair transaction reporting, 4) parts order and returns processing. These are the common electronic transaction elements of a warranty claim process that the EWC initiative seeks to standardize for the IT industry though XML PIPS under the publication of RosettaNet.
